It has come to our attention at NASA NorCal that MyLaps X2 Transponders are introducing certain challenges to drivers, and NASA officials are attempting to help MyLaps and drivers resolve them.
The earlier Flex (red/white) and the X260 (red) models are not affected.
MyLaps is working with NASA to ensure a smoother install and set up, and has published updated instructions and troubleshooting information. Third party video instruction is also included below.
One problem can occur when the installtion of the X2 transponder and “racekey” devices do not match with the user’s subscription as downloaded to the racekey device. There may be other hardware installation issues which may complicate troubleshooting as well. It is recommended that drivers first make certain that their MyLaps subscription is properly downloaded to their RaceKey device and that the installtion matches the subscription type i.e. Rechargable or Direct Power (DP).
Drivers may wish to delay adoption of the X2 until these issues are reliably solved. Meanwhile, if you already have an X2 transponder from MyLaps review the following:

Drivers Mylaps Racing
Transponders work in combination with the timing system installed on the track at the start/finish line and optionally at intermediate points along the track. Whether your track uses Westhold or MYLAPS AMB Timing Systems, Pit Stop USA has the transponder and accessories you need for your race track. Each Westhold transponder has a unique serial number that identifies exactly which competitor is crossing the start/finish line, or any other timing point on a course. Unlike standard RFIDs, Westhold's transponders have an ultra high data rate (1mbit/sec) at HF (3-30MHz) frequencies. Because the high data rate generates many data points, the system is able to more accurately determine when a transponder crosses the center line of the start/finish. Four Westhold transponder types are available:
Rechargeable (Yellow) - Charge lasts 7 days. Green light at top flashes the number of days remaining. Fast recharge (max 3 hours, typically 1 hour). Hardwire (Orange) - Eliminates charging hassle. Hardwired directly to vehicle. Hooks to 12VDC battery. Activated-CAR (Green) - A cost effective unit meant for cars of all types. No charging necessary. Replaceable internal battery (battery life 3 years, depending on usage. Non-use shelf life up to 9 years). Activated-KART (Blue) - A cost-effective unit intended for motorcycles, karts and quarter midgets. No charging necessary. Replaceable internal battery (battery life 3 years, depending on usage. Non-use shelf life up to 9 years). MYLAPS Transponders work in combination with the MYLAPS Car Timing System installed on the track at the start/finish line and optionally at intermediate points along the track. MYLAPS Transponders are available in three types: MYLAPS AMB Car Classic Rechargeable Power Transponder - The MYLAPS Car/Bike Rechargeable Power Transponder comes with a charger and provides the best solution if you do not use a 12V battery or switch cars often. After each full charge, it has an operational time of 5 days. MYLAPS AMB Car Direct Power Transponder - Keeping track of your lap times and finishing positions is important if you want to know how to improve your performance on the course. This requires insight and accuracy. If you don't switch vehicles often and want a permanent transponder installed, the MYLAPS Car Direct Power Transponder will keep you constantly up-to-date with your performance data. MYLAPS X2 Transponder - With the X2 system MYLAPS is taking the first step in building a brand new platform to collect and route data at a completely different level. The new platform will enable transponder-based products and services to be used for much more than timekeeping only. By working together with timekeepers, circuits and developers we create more value for everybody involved in racing. The X2 system has an all-new and robust design and includes newly developed portable decoders and servers. The system is built on a new and highly advanced infrastructure and can be used for multiple (motorized) sports.
